Filter media are increasingly important. Modern water treatment plants need media that are efficient, durable and sustainable. With outstanding filtration capability and a long service life, anthracite is one of the preferred media in waterworks.
1. Higher filtration accuracy
Anthracite grains are irregular and angular, forming a more complex pore structure in the filter bed. This traps finer suspended solids and colloidal particles, improving turbidity removal.
2. Excellent chemical stability
With high carbon content and low volatiles, anthracite is chemically stable and does not readily react with chlorine, acids or alkalis in water. Over long operating periods the media releases no harmful substances, keeping treated water safe.
3. Lower density for easier backwashing
Compared with heavy media such as quartz sand, anthracite has a lower density. It fluidizes more easily during backwashing, effectively flushing out trapped solids, restoring filtration performance and reducing backwash energy demand.
4. Long service life and lower operating cost
Premium anthracite is hard and abrasion resistant and does not break down under repeated backwashing and long-term operation. This extends the media replacement cycle and lowers plant operating and maintenance costs.
5. Better still when combined with activated carbon
In practice, anthracite is often combined with activated carbon in dual- or multi-media filters. Anthracite removes suspended solids while activated carbon adsorbs organics and odour, and together they markedly improve overall treatment performance.
Drawing on Datong's premium coal resources, Datong Guiyi Carbon supplies high-quality coal-based activated carbon and supporting technical services to the water treatment industry, helping plants operate efficiently, reliably and economically.
